Architectural security
Building security is designed to prevent incidents and keep burglars out for as long as possible. The more time it takes to get in, the greater the chance of being caught in the act.
Research has shown that in PKVW-certified houses, the probability of a burglary is reduced by 90%. Incidentally, this does not apply to the higher risk class.
By construction measures, you can think of:
- SKG-approved hardware.
- Cylinder core protection.
- Break-in-resistant safety glass.
- Roller shutters, grilles or roller grilles.
Building security is therefore the taking of measures that contribute to the burglar resistance of the outer shell or compartments of your home or business. These include measures relating to the security of windows and doors (façade elements) such as complete burglar-resistant façade elements, burglar-resistant hinges and locks, roller shutters and fences. In addition, the walls, roof and floor/crawl space of a building determine the level of building resistance class (BK1 to BK4).
In accordance with the VRKI 2.0, there are four levels of building security:
- BK1: Structural measures with functioning hardware and good quality façade elements.
- BK2: Building measures with performance requirement of 3 minutes burglar resistance.
- BK3: Building measures with performance requirement of 5 minutes burglar resistance.
- BK4: Building measures with performance requirement of 10 minutes burglar resistance.
