✔ Never leave keys on the inside of the lock.

✔ Lock windows and doors securely; always lock the door (deadbolt or mortise lock), even if you are only away for a short time.

Choose tested and certified hardware with corresponding hardware (e.g. anti-lift). Also consider the upper floor, which is often easy to reach by climbing up (balcony or container).

✔ Only issue a key to someone you can fully trust.

✔ Don't turn your home into a shop window. Put valuables out of sight.

✔ Make your house look lived in; do not close the curtains or remove plants in front of the windows, make sure lights are on in your house at night (by using timers, for example), ask relatives or neighbours to take the mail off the doormat or out of the letterbox.

✔ Mark valuables and take photos of them.

✔ Make copies of passport and identity documents.

✔ Do not post on social media that you are away or on holiday. Also, don't leave an absence message on your voicemail (preferably forward your phone).

✔ Store ladders or other climbing equipment (e.g. the container) under lock and key.

✔ Provide adequate lighting (arrangement lighting) around your home.

✔ Ask neighbours to keep an eye out or set up a neighbourhood WhatsApp.
