Police have already shut down 160 rogue online shops this year. That is 125 more than a year ago. This was reported by the police's Landelijk Meldpunt Internetoplichting (National Internet Scams Disclosure Office) on Saturday in Radar's radio broadcast. It mainly concerns well-known Dutch internet addresses that have been bought up by Chinese scammers.
The stuff offered for sale there usually has nothing to do with the domain name. A baker's internet address, for example, can suddenly offer fake goods for sale. "You get nothing delivered or they are after your credit card details," a spokesman for the hotline told Radar. He warns people to pay extra attention when shopping on the internet in November and especially December.
