In one day, nearly 1,200 additional cameras available to the police in solving burglaries, robberies, muggings or other crimes. "The willingness to help the police in investigative investigations is apparently very high. Every time the project is in the news, lots of individuals and businesses enthusiastically report their security cameras to the network. By comparison, on a normal day there are around 60," said Anton van de Streek, one of the project leaders Camera in focus.
Camera in View is a Google Maps map of the Netherlands showing at street level which cameras are available, how long the owner keeps the images, where the camera is pointed and how the police can request the images. Meanwhile, almost two hundred thousand cameras have been registered and the police would like to see that number increase further.
